Case study: costs and benefits of businesses collaborating for sustainability
The Fairtrade Foundation (FTF) has convened a working group on competition law and sustainability including business, legal, academic and civil society participants. FTF, supported by this working group, is looking to commission a consultant to produce a hypothetical desk-based case study which will encourage greater dialogue with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and government around the boundaries / interpretation of competition law when applied to sustainability initiatives that benefit consumers and the wider public.
The case study will take the form of a cost / benefit analysis focusing on key sustainability issues in a selected supply chain. This analysis should model the potential short and long term costs and benefits to consumers (and wider UK business and society) of sustainability-focused collaboration by business on the specified issues (in the present). It is anticipated that this will be based on the framework employed by the CMA under competition law, but will also seek to identify societal benefits that are not generally reflected as part of this framework.
Please contact Rebecca Chislett at the Fairtrade Foundation (see below) for the Terms of Reference.
We invite applications from consultants with experience of the methodology employed by the CMA to carry out cost / benefit analysis under competition law, but who are also experienced in quantifying societal benefits that are not generally reflected as part of the CMA framework. Applicants should submit a proposal that outlines the methodology they would use and demonstrates their relevant experience / qualifications.
The deadline for applications is 10am Monday 16th January. Subject to applications received, applicants may be invited to a telephone interview during the week commencing 16th January. FTF intend to notify the successful consultant by Friday 20th January.
For the Terms of Reference, any queries and to submit proposals please contact Rebecca Chislett at the Fairtrade Foundation.
