When farmer co-operatives are better managed and member-focused, they are more sustainable business partners and farmers’ incomes rise. This is the theory behind an intensive programme for Fairtrade cocoa co-operatives in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, the initial results of which are being released today by Fairtrade International.

The Network of Asia and Pacific Producers (NAPP) currently has sixteen Small Producer Organisations (SPO) in Sri Lanka producing a wide array of Fairtrade certified products, including tea, coffee, cocoa, fresh fruits, herbs and spices. Fairtrade farmers, like many other producers in the world, are struggling, not only due to the health implications of COVID-19, but due to the negative affect the outbreak is having on the global supply chain.
