Primary research exploring the internal and external factors that drive value by co-operatives for farmers in the Ghanaian cocoa sector. The research draws from first-hand experiences of Fairtrade Producer Organisations, cocoa farmers and a wide range of actors engaging with cocoa co-operatives from the outside.
The author offers a clear framework for assessing co-operatives’ value proposition for farmers and also a roadmap for supporting a stronger producer-led co-operative sector in Ghana cocoa. This study was possible thanks to funding from Open Society Foundations.
